9 Curly Hair Types

What Is Your Curl Type?

Whether you’ve had curly hair since you were a child or it seems like one morning you woke up to a head full of curls, styling these curls can quickly become a priority.  This should be simple- there are hundreds of products designed specifically for curly hair, right?

Well, it isn’t always that easy.  Curly hair often seems to have a mind of its own!  Nevertheless, there are ways to style your luscious locks.  The first step in knowing how to style and take care of your curly hair, is to know your curl type(s).

What is a “curl type”?

While there are many different forms of curly hair, there are three main curl types: wavy, curly and coily.  And, each of these main types have three subcategorie

To discover which curl type your hair falls under, take a look at your hair the next time it is wet.  The way it falls can help you determine which curl type you have.  The following explains the qualities of each type. (You may notice that we skip 1A,1B and 1C completely.  This is due to this category consisting solely of straight hair types.)

Wavy Hair

Wavy (Type 2): Not quite straight yet not quite curly, wavy hair often has a very loose “S” shape.

Curly (Type 3): Loops to buoyant “S” Shape

3A. Soft Curls

3B. Moderate Curls

3C. Ultra Curls

Combination Hair

When combination hair is discussed, it is usually in reference to whether hair is dry, normal, or oily.  However, combination hair can also describe the types of curls a person has!  If the head of hair has a lot of texture, odds are, it consists of more than one hair type.  For example, a  mixture of ultra curls and soft coils is a combination of 3C and 4A.

Haircare for All Types of Curls

One of the best ways to care for hair with any form of curl, is to use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner.  Regardless of whether the hair is coiled or has soft waves, if products consisting of sulfates are used, the curls will be weighed down.  The last thing curly hair wants is to become heavy from such products!

For this reason, sulfate-free hair products are recommended.  They nourish the strands and give the hair volume without weighing the hair down.  Curly hair also tends to become frizzy.  This is due to their shape making it harder for natural oils to reach each part of the strand.  There is a lot to take into consideration when taking care of beautiful curls!

OSKA Pure has the perfect sulfate-free products to care for all types of curly hair.  Whether the hair is wavy or has ultra curl, OSKA Pure has shampoo, conditioner and growth serums to nourish each strand.  Perfect for curly hair, OSKA Pure has anti-frizz smoothing shampoo and conditioner plus a nourishing anti-frizz hair oil crafted by natural Amazonian oils to

help the hair remain hydrated and de-frizzed without the added weight of unnecessary ingredients.
